Congratulations to the Comal ISD Class of 2023

June 2, 2023 - This year, Comal ISD graduated 1,878 students who are pursuing military, career or college plans. In a packed week of graduation ceremonies which began Wednesday, May 24, and ended Saturday, May 27, Comal ISD honored the graduating class of 2023 from its five high school campuses. Collectively, these recent graduates have persevered, accomplished many goals and created memories that will last a lifetime.

Canyon High School – Cougars - 1510 IH 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130 

  • 516 seniors graduated at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Cougar Stadium. Photos from graduation may be found here.
  • Valedictorian: Danny Aceves Iniguez, a National Merit Commended Scholar, plans to attend the University of Texas, Austin to study electrical engineering.
  • Salutatorian: Sarina Maya Schwarze plans to attend Texas Christian University to study biochemistry.
  • Five National Merit Commended Scholars: Luis ‘Danny’ Aceves-Iniguez, Kyle Dickinson, Alexander Hnatow, John Kelemen and Christian J. Zamora Macias
  • 34 student athletes signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level.
  • 11 seniors signed letters of intent to pursue their fine arts passion including music, theater and art.
  • Five students signed letters of intent to pursue careers in technical fields and begin careers.
  • 11 Cougar seniors committed to serve in the United States military. One received an ROTC scholarship.
    • Luke Gately will attend Texas A&M University on a Naval ROTC scholarship.
  • The Cougar Class of 2023 received more than $8.4 million in scholarships.

Canyon Lake High School – Hawks – 8555 Farm to Market 32, Fischer, TX 78623 

  • 244 seniors graduated 8 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at Hawk Stadium.Photos from graduation may be found here.
  • Valedictorian: Justin McGee plans to attend the University of Alabama to study biology.
  • Salutatorian: Hunter Anderson plans to attend Stephen F. Austin State University to study finance.
  • Highlights: Senior Baten Evans won two major rodeo art contests for his sculpture entries – the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Western Art Contest and the Rodeo Austin art contest earning a grand total of $24,000. Read more about Evans here.
  • Nine senior Hawks have committed to serve in the United States military.
  • Nine student athletes signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level including pole vault state champion Alencia Lentz who signed with Baylor University.
  • Three students are pursuing their passions in Career and Technical Education (CTE) including Quinton Pearn who received a full tuition-paid scholarship from the Canyon Lake Professional Firefighters Association to attend the Texas Fire Academy in San Marcos, Nicolas Martinez who is attending Lincoln Tech to study HVAC and Theresa Peaslee who is attending the Culinary Institute of America to become a baking and pastry chef.
  • The Hawk Class of 2023 received $183,197 in local scholarships, $6.8 million in total scholarships.

Comal Academy – 23255 FM 3009, San Antonio 

  • 39 students graduated 1 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Canyon High School Stadium. Photos from graduation may be found here.
  • Student Speaker: Ashlyn Darilek
  • Two students from the Comal Academy class will serve in the United States military.

Davenport High School – Wolves – 23255 FM 3009, San Antonio 

  • 204 seniors graduated 8 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Davenport High School Stadium, becoming the second graduating class of DHS. Photos from graduation may be found here.
  • Valedictorian: Noah Bliss, a National Merit Scholar winner, plans to attend the University of Texas, Austin to study aerospace engineering.
  • Salutatorian: Jaidyn Soverall plans to attend Trinity University on a pre-med track.
  • 14 Student athletes signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level.
  • Three students from the graduating class at DHS will serve in the United States military attending college on ROTC scholarships.
  • Four students plan to pursue their passion in fine arts while two will pursue careers in plumbing and cosmetology.
  • The Wolves Class of 2023 earned $1.6 million in scholarships.

Memorial Early College High School with St. Philips College – Eagles - 1419 N. Business IH 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130 

  • 81 seniors graduated 1 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at Pieper High School Performing Arts Center. Photos from graduation may be found here. 
  • 98 percent of graduating seniors also earned an associates degree from St. Philip’s College.
  • Valedictorian: Alyssa Amber Martinez plans to attend the University of Texas, Austin to study biology.
  • Salutatorian: Priscilla Brisbane Velazquez received a full ride to Dartmouth College as a Quest Bridge finalist. She plans to major in studio arts with a minor in English.
  • Morgan Davidson received a Gold Seal for her art entry in the state Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) which is the top 5 percent in the state.
  • One student is joining the military. Elijah Hime is enlisting in the United States Army.
  • The Eagles Class of 2023 received more than $4.8 million in scholarships including $19,750 from community and local partnerships.
    • Priscilla Velasquez will attend Dartmouth College as a Quest Bridge Finalist with a full ride.

Smithson Valley High School – Rangers – 14001 Hwy. 46, Spring Branch, TX 78070 

  • 794 seniors graduated8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Ranger Stadium. Photos from graduation may be found here.
  • Valedictorian: Mason Mock, a National Merit Scholar winner, plans to attend Texas A&M University to study electrical engineering.
  • Salutatorian: Sophia Goodwin, a National Merit Commended Scholar, plans to attend Swarthmore College on a track scholarship.
  • 37 student athletes signed letters of intent to play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level.
  • 17 Rangers have committed to serve in the United States military; three have appointments to military academies; and one has received an ROTC scholarship.
  • The Ranger Class of 2023 earned $9 million in scholarships.
