Top of the Class Thursday: Meet Your DHS Valedictorian Alani Parker!

April 16, 2026 - Davenport High School Valedictorian Alani Parker is celebrating four years of hard work and dedication this graduation season. From reminiscing high school memories to the anticipation of new beginnings, read on to learn more about Alani’s Path to Success.

Q) How did you find out you were Valedictorian?

A) Mrs. Looney and the counselors called me down to the office where they announced that I was officially the Valedictorian. They were so supportive and gave me a big hug, and I walked back to class with a big smile!

Q) How did you celebrate this accomplishment?

A) My parents celebrate me every day, so when I called them to deliver the news they were super excited and congratulated me.

Q) Describe the entirety of your high school experience in one word.

A) Rewarding.

Q) What is your favorite high school memory?

A) The first day of freshman year, we were sitting in the cafeteria, and I recorded a Snapchat video saying, “Guys, it’s the first day of freshman year,” and it always sticks with me because of everything that has been accomplished since that day. I actually rewatched it the day I found out I was Valedictorian.

Q) What is one thing you would change about your high school experience?

A) My work/life balance. I wish I had given myself more opportunities to have a “normal” high school experience. Although I do not have any regrets.

Q) If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be?

A) Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I chose her because my mom and I were just talking about her accomplishments and how historically women were not allowed in a lot of spaces, especially higher education. She worked really hard and has always been an inspiration to me.

Q) What song would you use to describe your high school experience?

A) Golden, by Harry Styles. Before I got my car, my mom would play that song when dropping me off at school and tell me how golden I am, and because of that, it sticks with me.

Q) Which university will you be attending, and why?

A) I will be going to the University of Texas at Austin. It checks all of my boxes, has a great program, and I love the campus and faculty! I will be studying mathematics, and hope to enter the field of quantitative research analysis. I am looking forward to joining the Black Student Alliance and the hiking club!

Q) What are your plans after graduation?

A) I will be traveling to Hawaii for my senior trip! I plan to go hiking, see the manatees, and experience the island. For the remainder of summer I plan to prepare myself for college, attend orientation, and then we will travel to Martha’s Vineyard for a final summer trip.

Q) What's a piece of advice you'd give your younger self?

A) Have grace for yourself, work hard, be patient, and know you will be okay.

Thank you Alani Parker for Growing Greatness on your Path to Success!
